Lock Through And Cruise (Little Loop)

Kentucky Lake Sailing Club

LOCK THROUGH and CRUISE EVENT

Kentucky Lake Sailing Club is proud to announce a Lock-thru and Cruise of the “Little Loop” educational and fun event!

Ever wanted to do a River Cruise and didn’t want to go by yourself?  Join us in this event and you’ll have some company that will give you that extra security that you may need for your early cruises.  We’ll learn how to lock down and up, how to secure and reserve a spot at a transient marina, do an overnight away from your home dock, eat meals, manage fuel, and have some great fellowship with fellow sailors from Kentucky Lake.

When:  Friday night, August 24 seminar and light snacks

            Saturday, August 25 – 8:30 AM –

  • Will leave from Lighthouse Landing, go through the canal and lock through Barkley Lock about 6 SM, (Cumberland River 30.6 SM), proceed down the Cumberland River to the Ohio (about 30.6 SM), then downstream to Paducah, KY (about 10 SM) to the new “City of Paducah Transient Dock” next to the downtown area where we will spend the night. Total distance about 47 Statue Miles. We’ll proceed at around 5 knots so small boats can keep up with ease.

The Marina has power available and fuel on a pre-arranged basis.  You will have to make your own reservation at the Marina through Dockwa, an app available on IOS and Android phones and devices.  Cost of the marina is $1.00 per foot for your boat.  You are responsible for your own reservation and cost for the night which must be made in advance.   I’m not sure about refunds if you make a last-minute change of plans, but will find out and let you know in the next email.

  • There are some restrictions at the Marina – you can’t have an open flame, so NO GRILLING, but you can use your internal cooking equipment or walk a short distance to town where there are a variety of places to eat.

On Sunday morning, we will leave Paducah approximately 8:30 AM and head upstream the 22.4 statue miles to Kentucky Lock where we will lock back up and end up at Lighthouse Landing.  Expect some current, so this portion should take around 4-1/2 to 5 hours plus 30 minutes for lock-thru.  We could have to wait up to 2 hours, but the Kentucky Dam lock knows we are coming and will not make us wait more than two commercial tows, so that will minimize what could be a longer time if traffic is high.  Plan on getting back in 7 hour or so at the worst case and we should be back much sooner.

We need a count on who is interested in coming.  We may be able to get a reduced rate from the Marina if we have a big crowd, but plan on $1.00 per foot there for the overall length of your boat.

Spread the word!!!!

Looking forward to a fun and educational cruise.
